Project

UAE Data Centers

The project consisted of three data centers in Dubai and Abu Dhabi for one of the major global on-demand cloud services providers. The buildings are two-storey buildings containing data halls, MEP rooms, equipment areas, offices and ancillary uses such as electrical facilities and loading bays. Exterior areas contain diesel generators and a large diesel storage tank to comply with Uptime Tier requirements for redundant power supplies. Joule Group supported the project from concept design until the end of construction and handover.

Project Delivery

Joule Group’s role on the project was to deliver the fire and life safety (FLS) strategy for all three data centers. Our services included development of a fire and life safety strategy using a fire engineered design applying NFPA standards to satisfy the requirements of both Dubai Civil Defence (DCD) and Abu Dhabi Civil Defence (ADCD). The compliant FLS design was supported by the development of a project-specific Hazard Mitigation Analysis (HMA) in accordance with NFPA 855 to fully review and assess the fire safety of the client proprietary battery energy storage systems. Joule Group led discussions with multiple stakeholders, including independent reviewers and Civil Defence, throughout the approvals process.
