Project

Leicester Square Substation

UK Power Networks undertook a £16.3 million upgrade to the electricity substation that powers the West End, located in Leicester Square, the epicentre of London’s tourism.

Project Delivery

The substation was originally built and went live circa 1991, and the equipment required replacing due to the age of the electrical power supplies. The upgrade works included the replacement of 3 transformers. Due to the importance of the substation, the client required assistance in assessing the previous fire strategy and existing infrastructure, with a future view on fire resilience and property protection. Following the review, Joule Group provided the client with options around the ventilation strategy based on their current ventilation system and created a fire strategy based on the client’s ultimate end goals.
