King Abdullah Financial District

King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) is a mixed-use financial district in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The project consists of over 83 buildings, including 61 high-rise towers, and combines residential, commercial and entertainment accommodation over a space of more than 1.6 million square metres. Joule Group were engaged on 10 parcels within KAFD.

Project Delivery

Joule Group provided fire life safety services to several aspects of the project, ranging from masterplanning and fire safety framework development, to fire strategy development and approvals for individual parcels, as well as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) modelling of atria smoke control systems within high-rise towers. Key challenges included the redesign of the already constructed buildings to ensure compliance with the latest Saudi Building Code 2018, whilst being cognisant of the previous local Civil Defence approval and the original basis of design.
