DEWA Phase V Solar Farm

The project was to develop a new 900MW photovoltaic solar plant. The plant will be located on a greenfield site within the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park plot. The Plant represents Phase V of the solar park’s development. Phase V has a rectangular shape with a total area of approximately 10.17km². The Plant uses ground mounted PV technology with a minimum accumulated installed DC capacity of 900 MW. The Plant connects to and exports its power through a 400/132 kV MBRSOLAR substation.

Project Delivery

Joule Group have provided specialist fire life safety consultancy for both of the major elements of the project, including the PV arrays and the substation. Joule Group also provided fire risk assessments focusing on the life safety of occupants and fire fighters, further aiding the design team with appropriate selection of protective measures. Our engineers utilised current international practice and guidance, as well as research when consulting the team on fire safety measures. The project was successfully delivered in a challenging programme and secured Civil Defence approval.
