Project

City Tower

The new City Tower will replace the existing City Tower 1 that is located on Sheikh Zayed Road and was constructed in 1988. The project will involve the first demolition of a high-rise tower on Sheikh Zayed Road. The new development will include an 82-storey, 355-metre tall multi-purpose tower that comprises of one level of basement, ground level retail, three levels of office accommodation, multiple MEP levels and 72 levels of residential units including two penthouse levels. City Tower will be in the top 60 of the tallest buildings in the world.

Project Delivery

From the early stages of the project, Joule Group collaborated with the client, design architect and lead consultant to develop a highly engineered fire strategy that is a best fit for City Tower due to its height and end user characteristics. Key design challenges included the use of lifts for evacuation and the integration of refuge floors within the tower to aid evacuation. Joule Group also conducted complex CFD analysis to determine the validity of lift shaft pressurisation and the impact of stack effect on the building. The fire engineering strategy was fully coordinated with all disciplines throughout the design process.
