Below are some of the questions asked to David whose answers focused around ensuring that owners and operators are conducting and properly managing their fire safety checks and ensuring that all fire safety checks are being carried out regularly, i.e. not just relying on the standard annual maintenance checks of things like fire hose reels which are usually sub-contracted out.
What are the key risks a client should be aware of with respect to Fire and Life Safety (FLS) if shifting from Manual to automated?
David’s answer focused around change management. Introducing new automation processes can introduce fire loads into the building that may not have been designed for. This can lead to the installed FLS systems (sprinklers, etc.) being not fit for purpose or overwhelmed if a fire occurs.
What advice would you give to warehouse owners/operators if they have concerns over fire safety within their facilities?

What tools are currently available to help warehouse owners/operators manage fire safety risks within their facilities?
David’s answer focused around the shift from manual inspection to digital tools such as (Total Fire Solutions), the capturing of data and providing a global view of assets from a fire safety perspective, i.e. red/amber/green categories that demonstrate which buildings are performing well and which are at risk. The use of digital inspection tools can ensure that owners/operators have a real-time status of compliance within their facilities and can ensure that all relevant checks with respect to FLS are being carried out on a regular basis.
