Joule Group Wins ‘Excellence in Innovation’ Award at the North West Business Awards for our Total Fire Solutions (TFS) Digital Platform.

Columb Duffy, All State (sponsors) presents the NW Excellence in Innovation award to John McColgan and Mick Lannon (Joule Group) at the 2019 NW Business Awards held in the White Horse Hotel.
What is the award?
The North West Business Awards are the premier accolade for firms in the North West of Ireland and provide an ideal platform for businesses to showcase and celebrate their many achievements and success. Now in its 14th Year, the North West Business Awards have prospered to become the leading event of their kind in the region.
Jim Roddy, Chief Executive of CCI said “I think everyone tonight would agree that we have some of the finest examples of business in the North West here this evening, celebrating everyone from the young and not so young doing their best in enterprise. Our winners and nominees are very deserving of these awards.”
Who is Joule Group?
Joule Group is an independent firm of fire safety designers, engineers, consultants and technology solutions specialists. We strive to ensure all aspects of fire safety are balanced and fully coordinated in design, construction and operation.
Why did we win this innovation award?
Core to our mission is “Creating a safer, more sustainable world through industry leading, disruptive, transformational technology.”
As part of this important mission we have developed an app based tool for fire safety compliance that automates the tracking of building safety. The app is called TFS-COMPLIANCE (Total Fire Safety Compliance).
Why is this ground breaking?
Governments are toughening fire safety laws. If building owners and facilities management firms stick with paper-based inspections, compliance could be equally tough. TFS-COMPLIANCE is the complete digital solution to new accountability needs, and is tailored for businesses by fire safety engineers.
This is a Digital Tool that Complies with the current drive to digitalise businesses and make cities and buildings smart.
Influential reviews like the UK’s Hackitt Report call for fire inspection data to be digitised, to improve safety and make building operators more accountable. With TFS-COMPLIANCE we have designed a tool to meet new needs and protect our clients’ reputations.
How our app fits into the drive for Smart Cities and all things digital and innovative:
Smart buildings are using the Internet of Things (IoT) to enhance experiences and efficiency. TFS-COMPLIANCE is the smart
digital solution for safety inspections, turning passive assets into sources of insight and revolutionising management processes. TFS-COMPLIANCE takes smarter buildings to the next level, creating valuable IoT-like data loops for passive assets like fire exits and extinguishers. App-based inspections gather data. Analytics turn data into insights. Insights help you continuously improve safety.
What does it do?
Tracks everything and Automates auditing – Regulators want the full picture on who carried out inspections, which assets were checked, what was found, and when. The secure TFS-COMPLIANCE app records all this, building a comprehensive data trail for easy auditing.
How do we implement the app to our Clients?
Built by fire safety experts It’s more than software. The solution is tailored to meet local compliance needs. When we sign up an operator, we map the buildings, understand all of the assets, advise on the compliance requirements and then provide training, customised tools and on-site consultancy by our Joule Group engineers.
Who will use it?
The app is designed to be used by both single building operators or for the scaling up to hundreds of different assets that are being managed. We are currently talking to owners, asset managers, facilities managers and fire and life safety managers from a range of different industries such as hotel groups, hospitals, universities, schools and many more.
What happens once clients sign up?
Once signed up, our Clients day to day users (who may be janitors, security guards or health ad safety managers) download the app and use it on a daily basis recording their inspections and daily fire safety requirements. In addition however, the power of the tool comes from a dashboard screen that monitors the compliance of one or hundreds of buildings, enabling owners or operators to understand the wider compliance issues and the implications behind the analysis of this crucial data. The owners obtain a birds eye view of how their buildings are (or are not in some cases) being monitored and adhering to fire regulations.
